In 1887, Judge Bowden bought the springs with a group of investors and starting bottling the water. In the same year, Sweet Water Hotel, a 300 room luxury health resort, opened. The Sweet Water Hotel and famous water from the Lithia Spring were so popular that members of the Vanderbilt family, Mark Twain, and Presidents all enjoyed many amenities of the resort.

Today, nearly 16,000 people call Lithia Springs home. Some of those people are Walton Goggins, Calvin Pace (NFL) and American Olympian Elana Meyers, who attended Lithia Springs High School.

Along with Lithia Springs High, the city has Annette Winn Elementary, Lithia Springs Elementary, Sweetwater elementary, Turner Middle School, and Chestnut Log Middle.

Sweetwater Creek State Park is the city's main recreational area. The park is home to George Sparks Reservoir. It is home to hiking trails, picnic pavilions, playgrounds and the ruins of Manchester Mill, a mill destroyed in 1864 by Sherman's Campaign. Woodrow Wilson Park/Lithia Springs Ball Field was a park surrounded by homes. Unfortunately, when the flood of 2009 came, it destroyed the park. There have been no plans to rebuild.
